“Go ye into all the word, and preach the gospel to
every creature. He that believeth and is baptized is saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned” Mark 16:16.
Our purpose for remaining in this world after we are
saved is to ensure that more people are turned to God through Jesus Christ. There
is no salvation in any other and no other name has been given under heaven
among men whereby we must be saved (Acts 4: 12).
This sole commission was not assigned to a church
name or specific congregation but to every individual who is a Believer;
not as a religious act but an act of love for lost souls and in fulfillment of
our spiritual responsibility of reconciling unbelieving man to a faithful God.
“To wit, that
God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their trespasses
unto them and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation”
2 Corinthians
5:19.
How
Can We Then Preach the Gospel?
The challenge is FEAR of what to say, How (or when) to APPROACH people with a sensitive matter such as Are You Born
Again? Or What will be my RESPONSE
when I am asked a difficult question? or I don’t know enough scripture?
1. You
can overcome FEAR when you preach the gospel with your Personal Salvation
story or Testimony that way you have sure proof and total conviction that
your message of Christ will have the same great result in other lives. But
ensure that your testimony is centered on Jesus Christ. What was your problem? What
did God do for you and what can God do for the person hearing your story? John
4:6-30 – Notice how Jesus spoke with the Samaria Woman? Vs 28, see how she brought people to
Jesus.
2. Jesus
is the Master soul winner and we can learn of his methods in ministering to
particular individuals, in Matthew Jesus won his disciples and in John
3 how he spoke with Nicodemus (who climbed a tree to hear Jesus). Soul winning
is spiritual so always pray for those you want to speak to first. What works is Christ message of Love and Hope instead of
Condemnation and guilt. Never assume
that your hearer doesn’t have any knowledge of Jesus, ask them first and
build on what they know then make corrections when it is wrong, validate or expand what truth they know.
3. Jesus
had the right answers to all the questions, assumptions and thoughts of people
that came to him. Now you may not have all the scriptural response to questions
you will be asked but that is no deterrent. Where you do not have enough
information, invite your hearer for a bible study meeting in your church /group
where your pastor can explain. When they come the Holy Spirit can broaden their
understanding of another area that answers the question that brought them.
God is that sweet.
A person does not have to be won to Christ in a onetime
discussion with you. Oftentimes they need to be exposed to the word of God continually
until their heart and spirit is saturated to bring about conversion.
So, if you have been trying to speak to a family,
friend or colleague about Christ without result, do not stop praying, loving or
talking. You are sowing a seed in their hearts that will produce a result at a later time when a stranger shares the gospel with them.
